In Rotterdam zijn vanavond voor de 23ste keer de MTV EMA uitgereikt. Nederlands succes in eigen land was er voor Martin Garrix, de 20-jarige dj won voor het tweede jaar op rij de award voor Best Electronic en voor het eerst Best World Stage.


Bij de mannen werd Shawn Mendes verkozen tot Best Male en bij de vrouwen werd Lady Gaga de beste. De prestigieuze Global Icon Award ging naar Green Day en twee awards waren er voor twenty one pilots: Best Live en Best Alternative.

Justin Bieber was grootste kanshebber met 5 nominaties, maar won uiteindelijk 3 awards waaronder voor Best Song met 'Sorry'. De award voor Best Video ging naar 'Starboy' van The Weeknd, Best Pop werd Fifth Harmony, Best Rock werd Coldplay.

De awardshow werd gepresenteerd door Bebe Rexha, die ook haar single 'In The Name Of Love' met Martin Garrix deed. Verder waren er optredens van o.a. Bruno Mars, DNCE, Shawn Mendes, Afrojack & Fais, The Weeknd en Green Day, die de show afsloot met 'American Idiot'.
