Met maar liefst 11 nominaties (een record!) is Beyoncé de grote kanshebber tijdens de MTV Video Music Awards 2016. Ook Adele maakt veel kans dankzij haar 8 nominaties, waarvan er 7 zijn voor de videoclip van 'Hello'.

De twee dames maken samen met Drake, Justin Bieber en Kanye West kans op de belangrijkste prijs van de avond: Video Of The Year. De uitreiking is zondag 28 augustus en live te volgend via MTV.

Tijdens de awardshow is er ook kans op Nederlands succes, want Afrojack is genomineerd met zijn videoclip voor 'SummerThing!'. Bovendien maakt de Nederlandse regisseur Paul Geusebroek kans op een award voor het regisseren van 'Panda' van Desiigner.

De MTV VMA gaat gepaard met opmerkelijke momenten; denk aan spraakmakende outfits (Gaga's vleesjurk), fikse relletjes (Taylor vs. Kanye: "Imma let you finish but...") en bizarre optredens (twerkende Miley). Wie de show presenteert is nog niet bekend.
